I REALLY DON’T THINK I WILL BE BLOGGING ANYMORE
December 7, 2008 by kap2416MY MUSIC THOERY (REVISED)
December 7, 2008 by kap2416We all have been listening to music since the beginning of time and considered it a great past time, but there are always people who generally say that certain genres of music is bad and how it will ruin our minds, especially parents who say we shouldn’t be listening to bad music, like rap and hip hop or rock as it “supposedly” ruins lives, just because it talks about sex, violence and drugs. I really disagree, and I think they are forgetting that when they were young their parents also didn’t like their music, a great example would be Elvis Presley, who was known as “The King Of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” He basically mixed country and rhythm and blues, with a really strong back beat, which was soon known as Rock ‘n’ Roll. This made him highly popular among the teens but controversial among the parents as he was using blues which was then considered as the black music and also because he was a sex symbol. So i guess history is repeating itself.
Music has always been judged by the parents by the image of the artist and by the lyrical content, but this doesn’t really mean the music he plays is going to affect the children in a negative way, a great example would be the rapper Nas, who dropped out of middle school and has always had a bad boy image has released thought provoking music like “Sly Fox”
“The Waco Davidian plots / They own YouTube, Myspace /When this ignorant shit gon’ stop?
They monopolizing news / Your views / And the channel you choose / Propaganda / Visual cancer / The eye
In the sky / Number five / On the dial / secret agenda / Frequency antenna / Doctor mind bender / Remote control
soul / Controller / Your brain holder / Slave culture / Game’s over / What’s a Fox characteristic?
Slick shit / Sensin’ / Misinformation / Pimp the station / Over stimulation / Reception / Deception
Comcast digital Satan / The Fox has a bushy tail / And Bush tells / Lies and Foxtrots. “
Nas is basically talking about how the media might be controlling everything and how it may also be controlling us, he actually challenging us to think outside the box and how we should not accept everything that is given to us without thinking and analysing.
Artists can also motivate us to start playing music, which can be a really good hobby as that way we don’t go out and start drinking and having sex or get into trouble . A great example would be one one of my favorite artists, John Mayer who fell in love with Stevie Ray Vaughn’s music when he was a kid, and because of him John Mayer began to play the guitar, who is know considered as a “Guitar God” by the magazine “Guitar World.” I think that this is a great example of how music can help us find our self. Music is not the reason why people do drugs, drink or use profanity. We can find these negative things everywhere we go its pretty much inevitable, and if we were to blame someone it should be the movies and the media that makes the usage of drugs, alcohol and violence popular.
Another great example would be the band, “The killers”, even though their band name is kinda a negative and would scare a parent away they are quit peaceful and their lyrics are amazing and thought provoking, Like their new single “Human” -”Pay my respects to grace and virtue / Send my condolences to good / Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could / And so long to devotion / You taught me everything I know / Wave goodbye
Wish me well.. / You’ve got to let me go
Are we human? / Or are we dancer? / My sign is vital / My hands are cold / And I’m on my knees Looking for the answer / Are we human? / Or are we dancer?” This is more like modern poetry, talking about, how even though we are humans we are being controlled by our social surroundings, in the band’s case they might be talking about the media and how they should dress and talk and act in public and how they might be being controlled by their record labels.
So in the end there isn’t even any plausible evidence that states that these genres are affecting everyone in a negative way but logically we can come up with various benefits on how they can help us grow and understand the world a lot better.

ANALYTICAL RESEARCH PAPER TO AN OP-ED
December 6, 2008 by kap2416My attitude has changed quite a lot these past few days, I have started to question and understand an author’s claim which has helped me write better and state my own opinion on their claims. So basically I have learned to analyse my work and also learned to write for a popular audience, which quite frankly I haven’t really done before. My attitude towards writting has become more analytical then just stating an authors views.
RULES AND CONVENTIONS OF AN OP-ED GENRE
December 6, 2008 by kap2416I have read a lot of op-eds during last few weeks, and they all followed a specific pattern. The author would state a claim or a thesis or a problem, then discuss how it may be wrong with evidence, after that the author generally gives his own opinion and maybe even ideas on how to access the problem. I read an article “The Horrors in Mumbai.” which also followed this pattern first stating a thesis, which was “Most of all, who is to blame and who should pay the price for such cruelty?” but the author was actually blaming the government for ignoring reports on why they should protect their shores in 2007. the author then expresses his ideas in the end. The author then gives us his opinion on the matter.
“In coming days India will have to look inward to see where and how its government failed to protect its citizens. The United States is still learning the lessons of its own failures before 9/11, but it can help in the process.”

“The Music Theory”
When we talk about music we would either talk about a new band or some good music, but when parents are talking about music, they are usually complaining about the volume of the music, for some reason we all love to listen to loud music, some may even consider it the root of all evil, this opinion usually depends on the age or maybe even traditions, for example Elvis Presley, who was known as “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” He basically started his career in 1954; he mixed country, and rhythm and blues, with a really strong back beat. This made him highly popular by the teen and controversial by the parent as the blues was usually referred to black music as it had originated from Africa, and also because he was referred to as a sex symbol. So different people have different opinions and comments on different genres of music, but mostly everyone criticizes about punk rock and rap and hip hop, for its revolting nature, and usage of drug, violence and sex, so does listening to these genres lead us to physical and mental damage, like taking drugs, becoming violent to others and/or to oneself, in both physically and mentally?
Music has been know since the beginning of time, every continent and every tribe has had some form of music, which is the use of a single or any simultaneous combinations of music performed in a rhythm. Now a days since the usage of internet has become fairly common and has made everything quite easy, especially music, which is available at a touch of a button. The easy access of such data has made parents quite worried about the music there children listen to, there has been on such article on parentcenter.com, which tells us more about a research done on a group of teenagers, where they divided the children into three groups, the first group would listen to heavy punk rock music with very violent lyrics, the other would also listen to heavy punk rock but with Christian based lyrics and the last group would listen to mellow and easy listening music. At the end of their results they found out the lyrics in the song didn’t help at all, so the first two groups, regardless of the lyrical content developed the same negative attitude towards everyone and also were very easily angered compared to the easy listening children. So this experiment concluded that the music was a heavier factor that affected the children then the lyrics. But one may also argue that
CAN GAS PRICES REALLY HELP OUR ECONOMY?
November 19, 2008 by kap2416I found this really interesting article, on how the gas prices have helped the automotive industry, and how it can help us with the bailout money. The author mainly uses logos to prove his point, telling us that how high gas prices will help tax payers, but might hurt consumers. So one might say that this is a really bad idea while one might find it really good so you should definitely check it out here.
Academic vs Popular audience
November 19, 2008 by kap2416A writer comes usually comes across two kinds of audiences, an academic and a popular audience. An academic audience well generally look at the technical aspects of your writing, like may be grammar, structure, the length of the article, which is genrally long and focusing on a certain topic, expecting to gain some valuable information, which is generally supported by some sort of evidence. While the Popular audiences are just browsing, and looking for something that interests them, it could be a story focusing on a current and a general topic, which usually are broad.
